4 girls stabbed in Braintree cinema attack, suspect arrested after Cape Cod accident

Four young girls were stabbed in a brazen attack at a Braintree movie theater Saturday night before the suspect was arrested following a fiery crash on Cape Cod, police said.

Around 6 p.m., a man entered AMC Braintree 10, walked past the ticket window and entered one of the theaters, Braintree police said. Inside the auditorium, “without saying anything and without warning,” he stabbed and attacked four girls aged 9 to 17, according to police.

After the attack, the suspect ran from the theater and fled in a black SUV, police said.

First responders arrived on scene and transported the four girls to a Boston hospital to be treated for their non-life-threatening injuries.

Braintree Police patrol officers and detectives quickly reviewed video footage and were able to determine that the suspect and the black SUV were no longer in the area. Police were able to recover the suspect’s license plate and other law enforcement was notified.

Braintree police said a vehicle matching the description was believed to have been involved in a similar assault in Plymouth. Boston 25 News was able to capture several cars from Massachusetts State Police and Plymouth Police investigating a scene at the McDonalds on Route 3 South Service Plaza shortly after the reported incident.

After the reported incident in Plymouth, Massachusetts State Police then began pursuing the vehicle before it crashed in Sandwich.

Photos shared with Boston 25 News showed the suspected SUV blackened and charred on Cotuit Road in Sandwich after catching fire following the crash.

The driver was taken into custody after the accident

Braintree Police said more information would be released at a later date.
