Nick Rockett won the Grand National after retaining a late favorite push, I am Maximus in Aintree.
Mounted by the amateur jockey Patrick Mullins, the son of Willie Mullins, the 33-1 shot loaded at the front line I am Maximus and Grangeclare West, sealing a triumphant finish a-two-three for the legendary coach.
Nick Rockett proved to be too strong for the defending champion, and his teammate, on the steeplechase of four and quarters of Mile and his quarter on Saturday afternoon.
“I’m too breathless to say anything,” said the winning jockey. “It’s incredible. I took too much good start and had to bring him back all along but he jumped fantastic.
“It’s a dream of when I was a child. When I was a child, I watched videos, it’s very special. It is fine – I myself need a cold bath. He is not tall but he is courageous as a lion.
