3 keys to success each trainee of the citadel learns its first week

As part of our exclusive look at this year’s class, Business Insider spoke to Matt Mitro, the chief of Campus recruitment For Citadel, on the way a trainee stands out in such a large roofing fund.

He told BI some keys to success which will be pierced in the trainees during their first week of work, in particular learning “commercial” and collaboration.

Mitro keys to a successful internship

Mitro said the first week is vital to guide students and explain what awaits us. They will participate in workshops, team consolidation exercises and social activities – and will hear senior managers and external speakers.

They will also learn what it will take to succeed, including the accent put by hedge funds on being “commercial”.

What does that mean? Mitro said it involved trainees “understand how their work applies on the markets and also if an idea that they may have used in a timely manner”.

A significant and effective collaboration is another “critical characteristic” of Citadel culture and a characteristic that the hedge fund is looking for in potential hires, he said.

“Some students can be used to working for themselves or in very small groups, but here you are counting on your teammates every day,” said Mitro. “We work constantly within and between the teams, and it is important to feel comfortable talking with othersReturn to them and ask questions. We are all available to each other. “”

Mitro added that trainees should try to be aware of self and reflect where they can grow. Even at this level, they will not be perfect.

“It is important for them to be very aware of their own areas of development,” said Mitro. “It could be communication or collaboration – how can I work with my colleagues? This commitment to self -awareness and continuous improvement is important.”
