3.0 quake hits northeast of Mount Laguna; second small temblor in 2 days

A mild earthquake shook the arid regions of eastern San Diego County on Monday.

The 3.0 magnitude temblor struck at 10:52 a.m. in the Carrizo Valley area, about 10 1/2 miles northeast of Mount Laguna, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Cal Fire and Sheriff’s Department officials said the agencies had not received any calls reporting any problems related to the earthquake.

A magnitude 3.5 earthquake struck shortly after 4:10 p.m. about 4 miles east of Lake Henshaw on Sunday, producing light shaking felt across much of San Diego County.

The earthquake began 13.1 miles below the Earth’s surface and appears to be associated with the Elsinore Fault, a roughly 190-mile system that runs partly through San Diego County, officials said.
