26-year-old man shot dead near Chula Vista marina, hospitalized

Chula Vista Police are investigating a shooting near Chula Vista Bayfront Park Wednesday night that left a man hospitalized with multiple gunshot wounds.
People called 911 shortly after 6:30 p.m. to report hearing gunshots in a parking lot on Marina Way near Marina Parkway, the police sergeant said. Anthony Molina.
Around the same time, police were called by officials at Scripps Mercy Chula Vista Hospital who said a 26-year-old man at the hospital had been shot and injured.
Officers visited both locations. The victim told police he was shot and taken to hospital by a companion, Molina said. His injuries were deemed not life threatening and he was transferred to a trauma hospital for treatment, Molina said.
Officers went to the marina and “did a thorough check” in the area, Molina said. It’s unclear what led to the shooting, he said, but officers don’t believe there was a threat to the public.
Anyone with information about the shooting has been asked to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
