Q2 – Norris makes a movement, tire strategies differ
After a short break, the drivers line up at the end of the standing track for the start of Q2, which saw Leclerc, Albon, Hamilton, Sainz and Russell try something different by moving towards the tire with average to marked yellow which had sampled in the first quarter.
Soft-Pla Norris was the early pace on a 1m 10.959, putting it slightly in front of Verstappen, Leclerc and Albon, but the hopes of Russell to join them were destroyed when he lost power in the earth in the tunnel and triggered another red flag.
With the free Russell car and the current session, the drivers had about eight minutes to obtain more Tours – Albon, Alonso and Sainz by pressing with the mediums, while Ferrari Paire Leclerc and Hamilton went to the softs and jumped at the front.
Another crazy dash against the flag saw Norris coming out at the head via a 1m 10.570, from Leclerc, Albon (who went to the late soft), Piastri, Verstappen and Hamilton, while the two racing bulls, Alonso (who stuck with these mediums) and an ecstanity also progressed.
Like Albon, Sainz has taken soft for his last race but could not improve, deploring that he had “no taking” with the tire marked red en route to P11, followed by another eliminating Q2 disappointed with Tsunoda, Hulkenberg and the Mercedes extinguished.
