The second major tournament of the 2024 golf season continues to be contested with many top players looking to set the tone for the rest of the campaign. This as the beauty of May surrounds Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville with the PGA Championship returning to town for the first time in a decade.

An unfortunate blow was thrown into the tournament Friday morning when, in unrelated incidents, a pedestrian killed outside Valhalla grounds during traffic incident and world No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler was arrested for violating traffic laws. Even before this shocking incident, Scheffler had immense pressure on his shoulders. Not only is he trying to become the first golfer since 2015 to win the first two majors of the year, but the 2024 Masters champion is seeking his third straight PGA Tour victory, which would also make it five wins in his last six tournaments. plays. The PGA would also mark the second step in his personal slam journey – even if he doesn’t complete it this year – given his major championship mantle consists of two green jackets over the past three years.

Through 36 holes, Xander Schauffele not only holds a one-shot lead, but has tied a PGA Championship scoring record at 12 under after the first two rounds. Although it was extremely impressive, Schauffele did not separate himself from the peloton. Collin Morikawa is one shot away from the third round with Sahith Theegala two behind, looking to break through as a professional. Then there’s Scheffler and Bryson DeChambeau who lead a large three-shot group from Scheffler. In total, there are 21 golfers within striking distance, meaning Moving Day should be huge on Saturday.
