Providence, RI (AP) – A coalition of 20 State Democratic prosecutors deposited two federal proceedings on Tuesday, saying that the Trump administration threatened to retain billions of dollars of transportation and disaster funds unless states accept certain actions to apply immigration.
According to complaints, internal security secretary Kristi Noem and the Secretary of Transport Sean Duffy threatened to reduce the financing of states which refuse to comply with President Donald Trump’s immigration program.
Although no federal funding is currently being selected, California prosecutor Rob Bonta said at a press conference on Tuesday that the threat was “imminent”.
“President Donald Trump cannot use these funds as a bargaining currency as his way of ensuring that states respect his favorite policies,” added Bonta.
