On Thursday, the prosecutors general of 19 states and Washington, DC, filed the trial before a Federal Court of Maryland, arguing that the administration of President Donald Trump had violated the legal requirements governing the layoff of federal workers.

The trial, which appoints several federal agencies and their secretaries as defendants, says that the federal agencies did not provide the legally required opinion before making the layoffs.

He specifically accused the office of staff management (OPM) of having illegally ordered the federal agencies to carry out mass dismissals of “suddenly and without notice”.

Probation employees are generally workers who have played the role for less than two years.

Under the federal law, agencies must generally give employees 60 days of notice for a “strength reduction” before their release.

In addition, when 50 or more employees within an agency receive these opinions, federal laws force the agency to inform the governments of the States.

The trial said that these opinions serve critical objectives: they give employees time to find new jobs and new budgets for loss of income, and they allow states to better mobilize resources, in particular placement services, training possibilities and links with social services.

“During the last month, the new administration had rough on the requirements of the RIF,” said the trial.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comments from Business Insider.
