2 police officers shot and killed while investigating stolen vehicle in Salina, New York
A sheriff’s deputy and a police officer died after gunfire while investigating a stolen vehicle in Salina, New York, authorities confirmed early Monday morning.
A Syracuse police officer and an Onondaga County sheriff’s deputy were initially transported to a local hospital in critical condition after the shooting, officials said earlier. The two men were pronounced dead at University Hospital, a police official said Monday morning.
The person authorities consider the main suspect in the case was also killed, police.
Shortly after 7 p.m., Syracuse police officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, officials said Monday morning. When the vehicle failed to stop, officers obtained the license plate number and went to a location associated with it, authorities said.
Syracuse police and Onondaga County sheriff’s deputies responded to the address, where a man opened fire on law enforcement, police said.
