2 New England Hotels Named Among the Best on the Planet

Travelers looking for great design in their accommodations can choose from two of the world’s most beautiful hotels, right here in New England, according to Town and country.

The publication recently released its 2024 T&C Hotel Awards: The Best New Hotels on the Planet and included the Raffles Boston among the city’s best hotels and the Longfellow Hotel in Portland, Maine, among the best minimalist hotels.

The 53 winners out of 172 nominees are “aesthetically striking,” according to the publication.

“After all, few travel moments compare to arriving at your hotel and falling in love at first sight: shapes! colors! the views! the atmosphere!” Town and country wrote.

Raffles Boston at Back Bay, the luxury brand’s first North American property, is a 35-story mixed-use tower with 147 hotel rooms where guests enjoy a 17th floor lobby, a Writer’s Lounge, a spa, a speakeasy, gourmet restaurants, and more.

The 48-room Longfellow Hotel, a five-story boutique hotel in Portland’s historic West End, is “carefully designed to enhance well-being and spark joy,” according to its website. The hotel has a café, bar and spa inspired by Nordic traditions.

…Think less of a modernist aesthetic here, and more of a certain timeless New England restraint. Longfellow’s rooms are comfortable and not flashy, with deep bathtubs and views of Portland from TRNK sofas. …

The winning hotels in the publication’s seventh annual awards had to have been open since 2023 and were nominated by T&C editors and travel advisors. They are featured in the April issue of the magazine.
