2 men killed in high-speed crash in National City identified

The driver and passenger who died after the car they were in crashed into two parked vehicles Friday evening have been identified as National City residents, according to the county medical examiner’s office.

Robert Casillas, 33, was driving Victor Arrellano Bacallo, 46, in a Kia sedan northbound on Avenue D near East 18th Street in National City when he lost control of the car around 10:50 p.m., according to county officials. The car overturned several times and crashed into two cars parked across the street.

Investigators said they believe Casillas was driving at a high rate of speed at the time of the crash and that Bacallo was not wearing a seat belt.

Both men died before they could be transported to hospital.

California Highway Patrol investigators said Sunday it was unclear whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.

The accident is under investigation.
