2 Live Crew rapper Brother Marquis dies at 58

Brother Marquis, a member of the iconic rap group 2 Live Crew, has died, Fox News Digital has confirmed. He was 58 years old.

The causes of his death and the circumstances of his death are unclear.

Marquis, whose full name was Mark D. Ross, joined the team in 1986 as a friend of DJ David Hobbs, aka Mr. Mixx.

The group shared on Instagram that Marquis “passed away” on Monday. No further details have been released.

Luther “Luke” Campbell offered his condolences for the loss of Marquis in a tweet shared on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“My condolences go out to Brother Marquis’ family and so many of his fans around the world after learning of his passing,” he wrote. “We fought so many battles for the culture to make good music together something I will never forget.

“We recently got back together to fight another fight to get back our catalog that was stolen from us. We will continue this fight in his name for his family. Brother Marquis, who I know, would like us to celebrate his life which is exactly what I’m going to do RIP bro.

The Miami-based group was known for its controversial hit songs, primarily from its 1989 hit album, “As Nasty As They Wanna Be.”
