2 killed when plane crashes near Truckee airport

TRUCKEE, Calif. (AP) — Two people died when a single-engine plane crashed Saturday night near the Truckee Tahoe Airport, authorities said.

The Socata TBM9 with two people on board crashed around 6:40 p.m. while on approach to the airport, the Federal Aviation Administration announced Sunday.

The crash site was about three-quarters of a mile north of the runway, on the edge of a residential neighborhood just north of the Truckee River. No homes were damaged, but train tracks along the river required repairs, KCRA-TV reported.

Moderate snow was falling at the time of the crash and visibility was a half-mile, the Sacramento news station reported.

The airport was the scene of a fatal accident in 2021: six people were killed when a twin turbojet flying from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, crashed into an adjacent golf course during a landing attempt.
