Two men were found dead Sunday morning in a “man-dug” cave on a hillside in Northridge, officials said.
The hollowed out space was about 2 or 3 feet high. There is no suspected foul play in the men’s deaths at this time, LAPD spokesman Tony Im said.
An unknown white powder was found near the bodies, prompting the Los Angeles Fire Department to call a hazardous materials team. An urban search and rescue team was also summoned to the scene to determine whether the hillside where the cave was dug needed to be consolidated. This is not the case.
The makeshift cave is near a homeless encampment.
No further information was available at this time.
