17-year-old boy arrested with loaded handgun at NYC high school: cops

A 17-year-old boy was arrested after bringing a loaded handgun to his Brooklyn high school Thursday morning, police sources said.

The teen was walking through a metal detector at George Westinghouse Career and Technical High School at Tillary and Bridge streets in downtown Brooklyn around 8:25 a.m. when school security detected the weapon in his schoolbag , the cops said.

The semi-automatic firearm contained nine rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber, police sources said.

Police are investigating after a Brooklyn high school student was caught carrying a loaded gun Thursday morning, authorities said.
The semi-automatic firearm contained nine rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber, police sources said.

The teenager was taken into custody, but had not been charged as of late afternoon.

The school, which has approximately 580 students enrolled, includes “career and technical education pathways” focused on electrical installation, computer science, culinary skills, information technology and data science – as well as ‘a STEAM center, according to its website.
