17-year-old boy arrested and charged with fatally stabbing his 19-year-old brother in Encinitas

A 17-year-old boy has been arrested, accused of stabbing his older brother to death during an argument at their Encinitas home, sheriff’s officials said Tuesday.

The victim was identified as Miguel Mozo-Hernandez, 19, said sheriff’s homicide Lt. Michael Krugh.

According to Krugh, the brothers fought around 10 p.m. Saturday outside their home on Sprucewood Drive, in a residential neighborhood southeast of El Camino Real and Encinitas Boulevard.

During the fight, he said, the younger brother stabbed Mozo-Hernandez in the abdomen.

Someone called 911 and deputies found Mozo-Hernandez injured. Paramedics took him to hospital, where he died.

Officers located the younger brother near an LA Fitness, about a half-mile north of the home. The 17-year-old was arrested in connection with his brother’s death and was booked into Juvenile Hall. His name has not been released because he is a minor.

β€œAt this stage of the investigation, the motivations and circumstances of the crime are still under investigation,” Krugh said.
