A 13-year-old who was struck by a pickup truck near a Market Basket store in Leominster died in the hospital Monday.
Leominster Police and Fire Departments responded to the area of a Market Basket, at 71 Sack Blvd., around 6:07 p.m. after a report that a pedestrian had been struck by a motor vehicle.
The juvenile, whose name has not been released, had critical injuries and was transported to UMass Memorial Health Alliance-Clinton Hospital, Leominster Campus, officials said in a release. The teen died a short time later.
The victim was struck by a 2018 white Chevrolet Silverado registered in Maine. The driver remained on the scene along with several witnesses and is cooperating, police said.
The crash remains under investigation by the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office and the Massachusetts State Police’s Detective Unit and Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Unit, in addition to Leominster Police.
“The Leominster Police Department extends their sincere condolences to all who are impacted by this tragic event,” said Leominster Police Chief Ryan Malatos in the release.
