12 Qatar Airways passengers injured as Boeing plane encounters turbulence en route to Dublin

Twelve people were injured after a Qatar Airways flight from Doha to Dublin, Ireland, hit turbulence, with one passenger describing it as “the worst 15 seconds of my life”.
Dublin Airport said in a statement that Qatar Airways flight QR017 – a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner – managed to land safely around midday on Sunday.
“Upon landing, the aircraft was met by emergency services, including airport police and our fire and rescue service, as 6 passengers and 6 crew members (12 at total) on board reported injuries after the plane experienced turbulence while in flight over Turkey,” the airport said. said. “All passengers were examined before disembarking from the plane. Eight passengers were then taken to hospital.”
Qatar Airways said in its own statement that a “small number of passengers and crew were slightly injured in flight and are now receiving medical treatment” and that “the matter is now under internal investigation.” .

Passengers on board the plane described a sudden fall during the flight, causing travelers to collide with the cabin ceiling.
“It was very scary, to be honest I’m still shivering… it was the worst 15 seconds of my life,” Mufaddal Ali, an airman, told the Associated Press.
A passenger told Irish broadcaster RTE that the seat belt lights were off when the plane hit turbulence. He added that his on-board meal came off his knees and his shorts were torn during the incident.

Another traveler told RTE that one person on the plane appeared to have suffered a back injury and was given oxygen while lying down, while a third said they felt the plane diving and seeing a flight attendant “go up in the air”.
“It was quite scary, the plane just seemed to stop, which it didn’t, but then it fell, quite a severe fall. Luckily the captain got it under control pretty quickly because that I thought ‘oh, it’s going to keep falling,'” Cheryl Suker told the AP. “But unfortunately there were a few passengers who didn’t have seat belts. They were in front of us and they were thrown out of their seats and hit their heads.”

Despite the incident, the flight crew continued to care for the passengers on board.
“The staff were amazing, they would get up and have to take care of us and they were walking around with bandages on their hands and bloody faces,” passenger Philomena Prendergrast told the AP.
