SAVANNAH, Georgia — Eleven people were treated for their injuries after gunfire broke out late at night in the downtown area of the tourist town of Savannah.
Gunshots were reported shortly before midnight Saturday near Savannah’s popular Ellis Square, police said.
It was unclear whether all of the injuries were from gunshots. The victims were treated at the scene and “several” were taken to hospital, police said. WSAV-TV reported that none of the injuries were believed to be life-threatening.
Police said authorities had collected evidence and interviewed numerous witnesses, but no arrests had been reported as of Sunday morning.
Ellis Square is in Savannah’s Historic District, an area popular with tourists and locals alike. It was developed in 2010 and is known for its large fountain and the life-size stature of songwriter Johnny Mercer.
