2025: it’s going to be a year, okay.
We don’t know everything the next 12 months have in store, but on the television side, things are looking up. This year we will see big returns like “Poker Face”, “Andor” and “The White Lotus”; not to mention the fourth and final season of “The Bear” (even though there’s no way it’s really all they’re going to be content with this hit, right?) and the long-awaited return of “Severance” on Apple TV+. But there’s also plenty of new stuff worth getting excited about (five words: Michelle Williams back on TV.)
Below, 10 new TV shows we absolutely can’t wait to check out this year. Need even more? Don’t forget to check out our Netflix 2025 preview for even more goodies to text about in group chats.
The year begins in the Wild West with this limited series from Peter Berg, Mark L. Smith and Eric Newman, described as a “violent collision of culture, religion and community.” Berg and Newman previously worked together on Netflix’s “Painkiller,” which also starred Taylor Kitsch. This time around, Kitsch plays the mysterious Isaac, a loner in the lawless territory that Sara (Betty Gilpin) attempts to navigate with her son Devin (Preston Mota) – but they will find it filled with more enemies than friends on a perilous cross. -trip to the countryside. The cast includes Kim Coates, Dane DeHaan, Jai Courtney and more, a mix of historical and fictional characters populating the trek. —PK
Noah Wyle. ER Does this sound familiar? “The Pitt” is not officially a sequel or spinoff of “ER” — although ongoing legal proceedings argue it may have started that way — but it does bring back the old Dr. Carter to the ER in a series created by veteran “ER” producer R. Scott Gemmill and executive produced by original “ER” showrunner John Wells.
The problem, aside from its Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania setting and new cast, is that “The Pitt” takes place in real time: “15 episodes, 15 hours, one crew,” as it says in the trailer. . Will counting seconds be enough to distinguish “The Pitt” from the hit TV drama that preceded it? And will fans of the original be curious enough to see Wyle back in scrubs but playing a new doc? See you in January to find out. —BT
Here’s another alternate universe from our friends at Marvel: this animated series about Peter Parker’s formative years will reflect on what would have happened if Parker had been mentored by Norman Osborn instead of Tony Stark. Yeah !
The show is created by Jeff Trammell with Hudson Thames voicing Parker, reprising the role from the Marvel Studios animated series “What If…?” Colman Domingo, Eugene Byrd, Grace Song, Zeno Robinson, Hugh Dancy and Charlie Cox will also voice characters. The show will debut in weekly installments; Check out the official trailer here.
Shondaland returns to the White House with this “zany thriller” from showrunner Paul William Davies, about a murder committed in the most prestigious address in the country. The eight-episode series was apparently inspired by the book “The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House” by Kate Andersen Brower, which delves into various presidencies as told by White House staffers who are intimately familiar with the 132 parts of the building – but also, according to Davies, the classic film “Charade”. After a body is found at a large White House party, the staff calls on Detective Cordelia Cupp (Uzo Aduba) and FBI Agent Edwin Park (Randall Park) to solve the case. The cast includes Giancarlo Esposito, Susan Kelechi Watson, Jane Curtin, Jason Lee, Ken Marino and many more. —PK
Co-created by Seth Rogen, the comedy will follow Matt Remick (Rogen), “the new head of the struggling Continental Studios,” according to a press release. “As films struggle to stay alive and relevant, Matt and his team of executives struggle with their own insecurities as they take on narcissistic artists and cowardly corporate overlords in the ever-elusive quest to make great films. With their power suits masking their sense of endless panic, every party, set visit, casting decision, marketing meeting and awards show presents them with an opportunity for glittering success or life-ending catastrophe. career as someone who eats, sleeps and breathes movies, this is the job Matt has pursued his whole life, and it could very well destroy him.
“The Studio” will also star Catherine O’Hara, Kathryn Hahn, Ike Barinholtz and Chase Sui Wonders.
Jon Hamm! Lead a drama! Hooray!
Jonathan Tropper’s drama will follow Coop (Hamm), a recently divorced and fired financial executive who “resorts to stealing from his neighbors’ homes in the ultra-wealthy village of Westmont, only to discover that the secrets and deals hidden behind these wealthy facades could be more serious. dangerous than he ever imagined,” according to a press release.
The show will also star Amanda Peet, Olivia Munn, Hoon Lee, Mark Tallman, Lena Hall, Aimee Carrero, Eunice Bae, Isabel Marie Gravitt and Donovan Colan. The program has already been renewed for a second season.
“Long Bright River” is a great book by Liz Moore and has a lot of potential to become a great series. Starring Amanda Seyfried, the official logline says the limited series will tell “the story of Mickey (Seyfried), a police officer who patrols a Philadelphia neighborhood hit hard by the opioid crisis.” When a series of murders begins in the neighborhood, Mickey realizes that his personal history could be linked to this case.
Moore is adapting his book for the screen alongside Nikki Toscano, with the two also serving as executive producers and Toscano serving as showrunner. A release date has not yet been announced.
Michelle Williams on TV? We’ll be watching, clearly, and this project seems particularly exciting.
From writers Liz Meriwether and Kim Rosenstock, along with director Leslye Headland, “Dying for Sex” is based on the hit podcast Wondery. The podcast is described as follows: “When Molly is diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer, she decides to do something daring: she leaves her unhappy marriage and embarks on a series of sexual adventures to help her to feel alive. She shares the funniest and most touching details with her closest friend, host Nikki Boyer. As they peel back the layers, we learn that Molly isn’t just dealing with breast cancer: she’s also dealing with some trauma from her past. Throughout the journey, the friends explore larger themes that concern us all – like healing, forgiveness, and what do we do with the time we have left.
Jenny Slate will play the role of Molly’s best friend and confidante.
This is the second spinoff of HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” and after the success of “House of the Dragons,” the pressure is… off? Of course, George RR Martin’s fantasy series represents HBO’s biggest franchise to date, and the network would love to get fans into a frenzy with each new entry by delivering yet another animated spin-off. But “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” doesn’t carry the weight of the franchise on its back — at least, not in the same way.
On the one hand, it is a story of friendship, about “a naive but courageous knight and his little squire”. On the other hand, it is based on Martin’s short stories, “Tales of Dunk and Egg”, which exist in the “Song of Ice and Fire” saga but tell their own story, taking place 90 years before the events of “Game of Thrones.” Rather than giving fans more of the same (like “House of the Dragon” has done so far), “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” could go its own way – and see how fans of the mold “Game of Thrones” are far away. are ready to travel. —BT
