1 person killed, 23 injured in northern Maryland bus crash, police say

BEL AIR, Maryland — One person was killed and 23 others injured in a bus crash Sunday morning on Interstate 95 in northern Maryland, police said.

The bus was carrying 24 people when it lost control and struck a guardrail on I-95 in Harford County around 6 a.m., Maryland State Police said.

A passenger died at the scene of the accident, police said. The driver and 22 other passengers were taken to hospital with injuries.

The northbound lanes of I-95 were closed for investigation, but have since reopened, police said. No charges were immediately filed. The Maryland State Police Response Team was leading the investigation.

The vehicle was described by police as a Ford E-450 designed for multiple occupants. Police were investigating the accident, including the origin and destination of the bus.

Harford County is located approximately 35 miles north of Baltimore.
