A suspect has been taken into custody following a shooting that occurred during a disturbance early Saturday outside Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said.
Police were first called to the hospital emergency room entrance around 2 a.m. to a large group involved in a disturbance, according to the Oak Lawn Police Department. When officers arrived, they heard a gunshot coming from the area of the group and saw a person fleeing the scene.
A 28-year-old man was found with gunshot wounds to his left eye and taken to the emergency room for treatment, authorities said. He reportedly suffered life-threatening injuries and was in critical condition.
The individual who fled the scene was identified as the shooter by witnesses and was later apprehended by officers, according to police. The suspect was carrying a loaded gun, which was believed to have been used in the shooting, police said.
A preliminary investigation found the shooting was linked to a double murder that occurred hours earlier in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood of Chicago.
Anyone with information about the shooting outside of the hospital is asked to call the Oak Lawn Police Department Detective Division at 708-907-4051 or text guidance at 708- 613-8477.
